THINK the Aussie version of The X Factor is exciting? Turns out we ain’t got nothing on the show’s British counterpart. And that may be a good thing.
The show’s 2014 grand final screened over the weekend and, while it was a fierce battle between singers Ben Haenow and Fleur East to take out the title (Ben won in the end), a couple of previously ousted contestants managed to hog the limelight with a super-creepy publicity stunt.
Sister duo Jazzy and Ruby King, who perform under the stage name Blonde Electric, stunned viewers during a group performance of the 80s classic Flashdance when they stopped singing during a close-up camera shot to share a lingering, passionate sibling kiss.
The duo had been eliminated from the show weeks before, and had already proved to be one of the more controversial acts in this year’s competition. They’d previously revealed an unorthodox childhood with a self-styled ‘cult leader’ father who’d moved the family around to more than 30 different countries.
The sisters are now estranged from their deeply religious father, who “thinks we’re going to hell†— we’re going to assume (or at least hope for the sake of family unity) that he wasn’t watching the grand final.
The pair’s pash had echoes of Madonna and Britney Spears’ headline-grabbing lip lock at the 2003 Video Music Awards. Only difference is, Madge and Brit aren’t RELATED.
Viewers weren’t exactly thrilled at the show of, uh, sisterly love:
