THE Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade was evacuated this afternoon after a suspicious package was located at the building’s canteen.
ACT Police received the report of the suspicious package at about 1.45pm and provided a “coordinated response and cordoned the area as a standard safety precautionâ€.
Staff were evacuated to a nearby car park but told The Australian they were unsure why the evacuation had taken place.
DFAT’s canteen is accessible to the public, as is its childcare centre and passport office.
ACT police later tweeted the package has been found to be “non-suspiciousâ€.
