A TEENAGE boy has died after being attacked by a shark off Port Douglas in far north Queensland.

The 17-year-old was at Rudder Reef when the attack occurred.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman told Cairns Post they were called at 11.32am this morning with reports a 17-year-old man had suffered an upper thigh injury as a result of a shark bite

She said he was given CPR on the boat which was carrying a defribulator, but he could not be revived.

The boy, believed to be a Far North local, was pronounced dead when the boat arrived back at the Sugar Wharf in Port Douglas around 2pm.
