A male driver believed to have been involved in an accident which killed a pedestrian in Rozelle on Sunday morning was subjected to a "citizen's arrest"  at the scene, police say.
About 11am on Sunday, a white Holden Commodore ute mounted the kerb on Victoria Road, hitting  a female and a male pedestrian.
The woman died at the scene, while the injured male has been taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He is in a critical condition. Their ages are unknown.
The 22-year-old driver has also been taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for mandatory drug and alcohol testing.

Police say a number of other drivers stopped when they saw the incident, and tried to administer CPR to the injured pedestrians. It is believed the driver of the ute fled on foot, but was apprehended by witnesses.
Police say he will be taken to Newtown police station after testing.
A crash investigation unit is at the scene and police have erected a crime scene tent over the body of the female pedestrian..
Inspector Grant Watson said witnesses tried to perform CPR until the ambulance arrived.Â
"The driver left the scene and a short time later he was arrested by civilians, who witnessed the accident," Inspector Watson said.
"Prior to him leaving the scene, the driver remained there for a short time, then left. These same people recognised him as the driver as he was coming back towards the scene."
Victoria Road between Darling Street and Robert Street citybound was closed after the accident. One lane has been reopened but traffic continues to be heavily congested from Gladesville Bridge heading to the city.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
It is unknown whether the pedestrians were together and no further details about the female pedestrian who died at the scene have been released.
Police have taped the area up to 30 metres back from the tent where they believe the car initially mounted the gutter.Â
