CHELSEA and Manchester City maintained the hectic pace at the top of Premier League but the performance of the weekend so far has come from Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger’s side - beaten at Stoke last weekend - returned to their best domestic form, taking apart the in-form Newcastle 4-1 on the back of two goals each from Santi Cazorla and Olivier Giroud.
Chelsea had to scrap hard before overcoming Hull City 2-0 as Diego Costa ended a five-match goalless run while Manchester City were thankful for a Frank Lampard goal in thje 1-0 win over bottom club Leicester City.

Burnley 1 Southampton 0
Southampton had a penalty saved and went on to lose their fourth straight Premier League match, beaten 1-0 by Burnley at Turf Moor.
Danny Ings set up Ashley Barnes to score the only goal in the 73rd minute with a right-foot shot from the left side of the area.
George Boyd brought down Ryan Bertrand but Dusan Tadic’s penalty was saved in the 60th minute by Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton who got both hands to the ball. It was the first time in 30 penalties that Southampton had not scored.
Burnley provisionally moves out of the relegation zone while Southampton stays fifth.
Burnley went ahead when Barnes broke into the box from the left after Southampton had lost the ball from a throw-in.
Barnes saw his shot take a slight deflection that wrong-footed Fraser Forster and went in at the near post.
The final chance went to Southampton’s Victor Wanyama deep into injury time, and he could only bury his face in his hands after heading over the bar.
Sunderland 1 West Ham United 1
Jozy Altidore had a first-half horror miss as Sunderland drew for the fifth time in the last six matches at the Stadium of Light, finishing 1-1 against West Ham.
Altidore wasted the hosts chance from close range with the goal at his mercy.
Jordi Gomez put Sunderland in front with a 22nd-minute penalty but Stewart Downing dragged the Hammers level seven minutes later with a deflected effort from the right flank.
Connor Wickham saw an 85th-minute drive tipped over by Hammers goalkeeper Adrian and West Ham’s Andy Carroll hit a low drive from the edge of the box which narrowly missed with 89 minutes on the clock.
WBA 1 Aston Villa 0
West Bromwich Albion earned only its second win in their last 10 games when it beat 10-man Aston Villa 1-0 at The Hawthorns.
The goal came from Craig Gardner, a former Villa trainee who took a shot at his former club before the game by questioning Villa’s standing as the Midlands’ biggest club.
But West Brom needed help to end Villa’s five-game unbeaten run.
Villa midfielder Kieran Richardson was sent off in the 22nd minute for a reckless dive into Stephane Sessegnon.
West Brom made most of the running, but couldn’t convert a chance until there were 18 minutes left.
Striker Saido Berahino, who had just come on, sent in a threatening cross, Sessegnon’s shot was saved, but Gardner hit home the rebound.
Crystal Palace 1 Stoke City 1
Peter Crouch scored a quick equaliser for Stoke in a forgettable 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.
The stalemate at Selhurst Park maintained Stoke’s unbeaten run against London clubs this season after wins against Arsenal, Tottenham and draws with Queens Park Rangers and West Ham.
The frosty handshake between the two managers - Palace’s Neil Warnock admitted this week that he “won’t send a Christmas card†to Mark Hughes - at the start set the tone for an uninspiring contest.
Palace took an 11th minute lead when Yannick Bolasia sent in a cross from the left to the centre of the box for James McArthur to head over the goalkeeper and into the top right corner.
Seconds later Crouch had Stoke back on level terms.
Bojan Krkic charged down the right before knocking the ball back for Jon Walters.
He was unsuccessful with his attempt, but Crouch, who like Bojan was on the scoresheet last weekend, struck home on his 600th league appearance.
