GAY hook-up app Grindr has handed out awards for the LGBT community’s biggest straight ally and enemy.
Former US secretary of state Hillary Clinton has been named ‘Straight Ally of the Year’, a year after she publicly came out supporting same-sex marriage.
Her support had been deemed as an exercise of political opportunism with many suspecting she will announce her bid to stand for US president as early as next month.
“I did not grow up even imagining gay marriage and I don’t think you probably did either,†Mrs Clinton told NPR. “This was an incredibly new and important idea that people on the front lines of the gay rights movement began to talk about and slowly but surely convinced others of the rightness of that position. And when I was ready to say what I said, I said it.â€
Grindr users said their ‘Biggest Prediction for 2015’ was that Mrs Clinton would in fact run for president.
Russian President Vladimir Putin was voted ‘Enemy of the LGBT Community’.
How I Met Your Mother actor Niel Patrick Harris was voted ‘Gay Icon of the Year’ from the second consecutive year.
Sam Smith won the award for ‘Best Coming Out Story’, Nick Jonas was voted as having the ‘Hottest Instagram Account’ and Grindr users felt that American Idol host Ryan Seacrest would be the ‘Next Celebrity to come out’.
