On a night fellow FFA Cup finalist Adelaide United was stunned 1-0 at home by Brisbane Roar, Glory maintained their place on top of the A-League table ahead of Tuesday’s cup decider at Coopers Stadium.
Richard Garcia had earlier given Glory the lead in the 11th minute.
The game was marred by a horror studs-up tackle from Jets captain Kew Jaliens on Glory defender Scott Jamieson in the 82nd minute.
Jaliens didn’t argue after being shown a straight red card and appeared to offer his apologies to Jamieson, who played on and was not seriously injured.
The Jets remain winless after 10 matches after their second loss at the venue this season.
Glory was good value for their 1-0 lead at half-time but the early goal came in controversial circumstances.
The Newcastle defence’s pleas for the goal to be disallowed were ignored by referee Kris Griffiths-Jones.
Jets midfielder David Carney had a chance to equalise in the 53rd minute, but couldn’t keep his strike down in what was probably the visitors’ most clear-cut opportunity of the night.
Glory attacker Sidnei Sciola got his first minutes of the A-League season as a second-half substitute, having overcome a long-term calf injury.
