A 17-year-old girl is dead after a car ran off the road and hit a tree on Queensland's Sunshine Coast north of Â Brisbane.

The teenager, who was a passenger in the car, died in the accident just before 10pm on Thursday at Caloundra West.

The male driver and another female passenger have been taken to Nambour Hospital.
