LIKE it or not, 2014 was the year in which Kim Kardashian became a fully-fledged fashion icon.
There was the Vogue cover shoot. The celebrity wedding to end all celebrity weddings. THAT magazine cover. And along the way, she’s barely put a foot wrong when it comes to dressing in daring, often revealing outfits that perfectly accentuate her assets.
Kim attended the 19th Annual ACRIA Holiday Dinner in New York this week in a two-piece ensemble with more than a subtle nod to Blonde Ambition-era Madonna. The outfit — a “teal blue hand-quilted satin bustier and a dusty pink satin draped skirt by Ulyana Sergeenko, teamed with her favourite gold T-strap sandals by Tom Ford,†according to US Magazine — copped an overwhelmingly negative reaction when Kim shared snaps with her 23 million Instagram followers.
Fans labelled the ensemble, with its lingerie-esque top half and bare torso, “tackyâ€, “homemade-lookingâ€, a “horrible outfit choice†and “like Kim forgot to put a shirt on†— among many more cutting critiques under her Insta pics.
Kim attended the event to present her friend, photographer Bruce Weber, with the Artists Ending AIDS award. While Weber was the one being honoured, as usual all eyes were on Kim — just possibly not for the right reasons this time.
