CANADIAN superstar swinger Michael Buble is the king of the Australian Christmas soundtrack for the fourth year in a row.

His Christmas album, first released in 2011, is heading back up to the top of the ARIA charts, already claiming the No. 1 spot on iTunes yesterday.

It has now achieved 10 times platinum selling more than 700,000 copies here — a remarkable volume considering it is only released for a couple of months each year.

Christmas has spent 30 weeks in the ARIA top 50 since its release in October 2011 and features his versions of family favourites including Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, White Christmas, Ave Maria, Silent Night, Santa Baby and It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas.

Buble has always faced strong competition from another Yuletide favourite, Mariah Carey and her five-times platinum seasonal seller which re-entered the Australian top 30 last week.

And acapella newcomers Pentatonix are making a late race for the top in 2014 with their new record That’s Christmas To Me which debuted at No. 36.

Other popular silly season soundtracks which have made it onto the pop charts in recent years have included records by The Wiggles, Hi-5, Hanson, Rod Stewart, Michael Crawford, Celine Dion, The Seekers and Human Nature.

Music’s man-of-the-year Sam Smith gave his fans an early present with a decidedly non-merry version of Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas which had scored over a million views since its release last week.
