THE parents of a baby who died after being hit by a forklift say their boy will be always loved and that his memory will stay with them forever.

Baby Angus Blackley was described as a “tough as nails little boy” who had fought until the very end following the accident in his parents’ motor workshop at Moolap, near Geelong, on Saturday.

The 9-month-old lost his battle in the Royal Children’s Hospital early Thursday morning.

His parents, Samantha and Brodie, had maintained a bedside vigil since the incident at their business, Blackley Automotive.

“We love him very, very, very much and he’ll always be in our hearts and always be around us,” Mrs Blackley told the Herald Sun.

She said that Angus had “put up a fight” and that she knew staff at the Geelong Hospital and Royal Children’s Hospital had done all they could to help him.

“The staff who dealt with Angus over the last days have just been the most compassionate, loving, staff I’ve ever met,” Mrs Blackley said.

“We want to thank them for everything they did.

“We thank everyone for all of their support.”

Angus suffered head injuries when he was struck by the moving forklift, driven by his mechanic dad, at the workshop on the Bellarine Hwy.

Mr and Mrs Blackley had temporarily moved with their children into the premises just days before the tragedy.

Police have again visited the scene of the death, as investigations continued into the tragedy.

There has been no suggestion from police that the death was anything but a tragic accident.

The motoring community in Geelong is rallying around Mr and Mrs Blackley, who were described by friends as loving parents and well-known car enthusiasts who love spending time with their children.

David Rochow, who knows the family through their time with the Old Skool Street Cars of Geelong club, said the community was heartbroken.

“I can remember the times walking in the workshop, and seeing his (Angus’) smiley face,” Mr Rochow said.

“I remember seeing his dad picking him up and both of them had big smiles on their faces — greasy hands and all.”

The family, which included three boys and Mr Blackley’s older daughter, are often out together, visiting car shows.

On Saturday, motoring enthusiasts and other members of the community are invited to bring their vintage cars to a tribute and fundraiser for Angus, at the Peninsula Hotel in Moolap.

Friends are also collecting money for the boy’s funeral and the family’s ongoing expenses.

Mr and Mrs Blackley will not be attending the event but thanked everyone for their thoughts and asked for privacy as they mourned for their youngest son.
