SOME of the world’s most exclusive and waitlisted handbags are up for sale.
For 72 hours, international retailer Neiman Marcus and Heritage Auctions are making cult bags from the revered Hermès house the focus of an intense online ‘sale’.
Hermès bags are often referred to as the most coveted and desired in the world — the crocodile skin option that has been encrusted with 245 diamonds costs a few hundred thousand dollars — but retailers claim the regular bags are not all are THAT pricey.
Neiman Marcus and Heritage will host the sale of 36 Hermès bags from Wednesday morning (AEST time) with Birkins, Kellys and others on the chopping block.
Just ten of the bags will be available to be shipped to Australia and when you are looking at around, cough, cough, $25k the maximum prices for just one bag, let’s say they are an acquired taste.

Some of the celebrities who have been spotted with the totally handmade Hermès bag include Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez and Victoria Beckham.
The trio are just a small part of the Hermès ‘Birkin’ bag club — the bag named after the actor Jane Birkin, who once said they are “bloody heavyâ€.
The French fashion house make every part of their Hermès bag by hand, with trained artisans spending hundreds of hours getting every last bit of each bag just right.

Fashion folklore says the The Birkin “happened†when Jane Birkin and Hermès chief executive Jean-Louis Dumas in 1981 met on a plane and Dumas noticed Birkin struggling with a straw bag.
The story continues, she explained to Dumas that she couldn’t find a decent weekend bag and voila! Dumas modified an existing Hermès design and the Birkin Bag came to life in 1984.
