THE inventor of the World Wide Web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, has launched an astonishing attack on mobile/tablets apps and walled gardens.
“Apps are boring,†he told the LeWeb conference in Paris.
He was responding to a question on whether the web was dead.
“The web was built to be an open innovative platform but much of it has become read-only and walled gardens,†he said.
There were too many silos and the web needed to be open again.

Walled gardens restricted data flow and interaction.
Apps were read-only so there could be no conversation.
“Everyone loses if’s not on the web. The important thing is that everything has a URL .
“(Otherwise) it’s not part of the discussion ... no comment or share.â€
There had to be a URL (web address) so people could link to it and tweet about.
“Everything you can do an app you can do on a web page,†he said.
“The future will be based on web technology. It looks like an app but it’s a web page.â€
