FACEBOOK wants to get so smart that at some point in the future, it will be able to prevent your drunken self from uploading embarrassing photos to the social network.
The company is working on advanced artificial intelligence software that will be able to determine what is happening in the picture beyond just simple face detection. If you’re slightly intoxicated, it will have the ability to advise against uploading that stupid selfie.
Yann LeCun , who oversees Facebook’s Artificial Intelligence Research lab, told Wired that he believes the future Facebook AI would act like an assistant.
“Imagine that you had an intelligent digital assistant which would mediate your interaction with your friends, and also with content on Facebook,†Mr LeCun told Wired.
He also wants to protect users from their friends, with LeCun saying that having such an advanced assistant could warn users that someone else is about to upload a potentially embarrassing photo of them without their permission.
The AI would basically be there to tap you on the shoulder and ask: Do you really want your boss or mum to see this?
Facebook is also looking to do a lot more with AI, with features much more advanced than just finding a drunk photo of you. At the same time, Mr LeCun acknowledges that people might be against machines identifying them and storing their faces in the fear that it’s for ads. But he insists this is for giving more control over your online identity, not less.
Is this the start of artificial intelligence taking over like Stephen Hawking predicts?
