DWAYNE Johnson says he performed more stunts on upcoming disaster flick San Andreas than in any of his previous films, which include the Fast and Furious franchise, GI Joe: Retaliation and Hercules.
While shooting the $US100 million blockbuster on the Gold Coast earlier this year, the actor and WWE wrestler known as ‘The Rock’ gave fans a number of behind-the-scenes sneak peeks, instagramming pictures of him parasailing out of helicopters and down mountains.
“I’m no madman or adrenaline junkie,†he wrote to his millions of followers, “just a guy who likes to get s*** done.â€
San Andreas tells the story of a rescue chopper pilot and his estranged wife (Carla Gugino) who travel across California to rescue their daughter (Alexandra Daddario) in the wake of a massive earthquake.
In an interview on set at Warners Bros’ Gold Coast studios, Johnson said it was “by far†the most action he had seen on a film.
“Not only did I want to honour the real rescue men and women (I had met) but also to create something cool for the audience because they are savvy and if there are ways where we don’t have to cut around me repelling out of a helo (helicopter) at 300 feet down a cliff then great, let’s give it a shot,†Johnson said.
“I have got a great stunt team who I trust. I actually did one of them on my birthday which was great. It was like this cool shot out the helo all the way down.
“It was a great birthday present.â€
San Andreas is slated for a May 28 release in Australia.
