Queensland Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney has intervened to force the removal of all references to climate change-derived 0.8m sea level rises from the regional plan of Moreton Bay Regional Council, ABC reports.
According to the news service, Mr Seeney wrote to the council on November 28 directing it to "Â to remove any assumption about a theoretical projected sea level rise from all and any provision of the scheme".
The council is obliged to obey the decision, the ABC said, and the state's local government association, LGAQ, has written to the government seeking clarification of the insurance and liability implications for other councils.
On coming to office, the LNP removed the Bligh government's requirement for councils to incorporate the 0.8-metre rise in sea level, the news service said, with Mr Seeney intervening at Moretan "to ensure residents' rights to build and develop their properties were maintained and not restricted by their local council".
LGAQ president Margaret de Wit said there needed to be consistency "for all of the coastal councils".
