DANIEL Johns will return to the rock stage with a guest appearance at the star-studded Beat The Drum concert to mark Triple J’s 40th anniversary.

The Silverchair frontman, who has been working on his solo album since he put the band into hibernation in 2011, will perform in Sydney’s Domain on January 16.

Johns has collaborated on several other projects in the past couple of years including 360’s single Impossible and the Adelaide Festival production An Evening With Van Dyke Parks last year.

Gotye, Bernard Fanning, Sarah Blasko, Megan Washington, Hoodoo Gurus frontman Dave Faulkner and Paul Dempsey have also joined the bill to celebrate the acts that have been championed by the youth network during its four decades on air.

The exact nature of their cameos will remain a surprise until the concert.

Some will perform one of two songs, whether their own hits or covers, while others could team up with the headline acts.

The bill already reads like a who’s who of Australian chart stars with Hilltop Hoods, The Presets, The Cat Empire, You Am I and Vance Joy confirmed among the “headliners” to play longer sets at the concert.

Much-loved and emerging talent also adding their voice to the musical celebration include Adalita, Courtney Barnett, Owl Eyes, Tkay Maidza, Drapht, Illy, Thundamentals and Horrorshow.

The concert will be broadcast live and also features as part of the Sydney Festival program of events in The Domain.
