POLICE have begun a major search over land, air and water in an effort to find a missing 2½-year-old autistic boy.

The boy, named Sam, was last seen in the vicinity of Landsdale in Perth’s northern suburbs after 10.30am.

He is described as fair skinned and has blond hair, and was last seen wearing a blue polo shirt and shorts with a grey stripe.

A large number of resources have been deployed to help with the search, including mounted police officers, the police air wing and the dog squad.

City of Wanneroo rangers, State Emergency Service volunteers and neighbours are also being organised to help with the search, which is focusing on nearby backyards, under bushes, storm drains and lakes.

Police say the toddler wandered off from the family home this morning.

Sam’s grandfather made a brief statement outside the family home this afternoon.

“I understand the front door was left open briefly and he’s slipped away,” he said.

“He’s very special. He’s got autism which makes it all the more difficult.”

Anyone who sees Sam should phone police on 131 444.
