THREE people have died and eight were injured in a crash that happened after a motorist hit a bear along a two-lane road and stopped.
Authorities say a Cadillac Escalade hit the bear in Florida on Sunday evening and people in a second vehicle had stopped to help when a Mercedes ploughed into them. The bear also died.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office says four critically injured patients were flown to a hospital in Fort Lauderdale. Four people with non-life-threatening injuries were taken by ambulance. Officials say some of the victims were children.
The crash happened on a road on the Big Cypress Seminole Reservation in the Florida Everglades.
Seminole police spokesman Gary Bitner says two of the 13 people involved were not injured, including the woman in the vehicle that hit the bear.
