Broadway_LightTheWay_1Sydney’s Broadway Shopping Centre has teamed up with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service to light up the heritage listed building to support blood donations.

For the first time in the building’s 110 year history Broadway Shopping Centre will be lit up with a red glow to raise community awareness of the importance of donating blood.

The lights are now on, illuminating the iconic former Grace Bros building located on Broadway in Sydney’s inner west during the Christmas period.

Justine Saltmarsh, centre manager at Broadway says that lighting up the building during its busiest period provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of donating blood.

“We’ve made it really convenient for everyone visiting Broadway Shopping Centre to donate blood with a pledge box located inside so while shopping for Christmas gifts, shoppers will also be able to give the gift of life by registering their details,” said Saltmarsh.

The partnership will also include a Pledge Box. Shoppers can pledge to donate blood as part of their New Year’s resolution by leaving their details to be contacted to make an appointment to donate blood in 2015.

Broadway Shopping Centre will be lit each evening from 8pm until December 24.

Sydney’s MLC Centre in Martin Pl is also lighting up to celebrate Christmas.

A Merry Go Round themed light show will be projected onto the Commercial Traveller’s Association Building on the MLC Centre forecourt from 8pm until midnight for Christmas.

The projection uses both light and sound and follows the success of Vivid Sydney’s Urban Tree Project, where a tree was projected onto the building.
