THE terrifying moment carriages on a 60m high amusement park ride smash into each other with people on board has been captured on video.

The Sky Ride at the Winter Wonderland in Cardiff, the capital city of Wales, UK, had to be shut down with all on board left dangling after two empty gondolas, which had begun swinging alarmingly and moving erratically, hit gondolas filled with people, WalesOnline reported.

“Just a warning to any one who goes to Winter Wonderland (Cardiff) be aware of this ride,” posted Leanne Williams who was on the ride and filmed the dramatic video and posted on Facebook.

“Watch and see what happens. Scariest moment of my life.”

Sayers Amusements, of Port Talbot, Wales, told the BBC that the Sky Ride was safe and that gusts of wind were responsible and the ride shut down correctly as the wind picked up.

“The gust of wind blew the empty gondola, and they did connect, but there was no damage, and importantly, no one was injured.

“It took less than five minutes to get all gondolas unloaded,” a Sayers Amusements spokesman said.

“No one was hurt as the safety system was working correctly at all times, and a full explanation was given to everyone on the ride, and they were all given a full refund, and all stayed on-site for a while afterwards.”

The ride reopened when the wind eased.

Cardiff City Council, which runs the event, said it had sought assurances to ensure there is not another incident.
