But the sale figure for the Brunswick house fell below an earlier offer of more than $1.1 million that was reportedly made ahead of a scheduled March auction but ultimately unravelled.

The Downs St home was recently relisted for private sale by Woodards, Carlton, with a $1.23 million asking price.

His sister-in-law, Renate Mokbel, claimed to own the property when signing his bail undertaking in 2004.

It emerged the property was in a family trust, JR Mokbel Pty Ltd, and frozen by a court order, which hampered efforts to sell it when Mokbel fled overseas.

A HOME FIT FOR DR SEUSS

An allotment next door to the double-storey house, also owned by Mokbel at the time, had once been the site of a drug laboratory.

However, both have changed hands since they were in Mokbel family ownership.

CoreLogic RP Data reported the neighbouring allotment, which has a swimming pool and spa but no building on it, sold in September for $700,000.

The house on the other block was described as “a landmark residence perfect for the family seeking some extra space”. It features five bedrooms, two balconies, a covered rear porch opening to an outdoor entertaining area, large downstairs living spaces and three bathrooms.
