The Hawks are due to play Melbourne United at John Cain Arena on Sunday but Goorjian will be isolating, leaving his assistant Jacob Jackomas to lead the side as they hunt a top-four spot.
“Brian is feeling fine and is in good spirits, despite the enforced isolation,” Hawks co-owner and president Dorry Koradhi said.
“Brian is still heavily involved in the team’s preparation for our game against United – this will be a great test for the team, as we work towards our third straight win.”
TITLE CONTENDERS MAKE LATE SIGNINGS
Melbourne United and Perth Wildcats are locking in their final pieces for their run to the NBL finals series.
United announced on Wednesday it had regained Japanese swingman Yudai Baba for the rest of the season after a stint in the NBA G-League with the Texas Legends.
Baba was a fan favourite in Melbourne’s title win last year and when Callum Dalton went down injured, United pounced to bring in the Tokyo Olympian to help guard the likes of Jaylen Adams, Bryce Cotton and others in the finals.
Perth is chasing import forward John Brown III who has been starring in EuroLeague with Russian club UNICS Kazan, but joined the foreign players leaving the country following the invasion of Ukraine.
Perth media have been having fun showing pictures of the defensive ace around the city despite the Wildcats not yet announcing his signing.
Russian clubs are reportedly not completing clearances for stars trying to leave but governing body FIBA has been pushing through paperwork so it appears Perth could have their man in the coming days.
To qualify for finals, players need to play a quarter of the season – seven games – so with most clubs having eight or nine remaining, it’s crunch time for late changes.
BOOMERS, LYNX FAVOURITES IN WNBL SEMIS
The WNBL semi-finals begin on Thursday night with the top team Melbourne Boomers hosting the Adelaide Lightning in game one of their series at Parkville at 7pm.
The Boomers have coach Guy Molloy coaching in his final games after nine years in the role while Canberra Capitals coach Paul Goriss, whose side faces second-placed Perth Lynx, is also finishing up before taking up a role in the WNBA.
Melbourne and Adelaide play game two of their series in Adelaide on Saturday and, if needed, a deciding third game at Parkville next Thursday night.
On form, the Boomers and Lynx look the favourites to progress to the best-of-three grand final series.
