Acting Prime Minister Michael McCormack has praised the “bravery” and “selflessness” of Victoria’s emergency service volunteers and has pledged Commonwealth support to communities affected by the floods. The state’s floods, which have so far claimed the lives of two people, are expected to worsen with forecasts of more rain in the week ahead. “I wish to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts, the remarkable endeavours of our volunteers and emergency services,” he said. “They undertake their roles in very, very difficult and dangerous circumstances. They do it completely without fanfare. “I want to pay tribute to Victorians who have responded within their own communities with bravery, with selflessness. “The resilience of Australians in crisis can only be summed up by one word – humbling.”
