NSW SES is advising residents in certain low lying areas to evacuate by 8pm tonight as floodwaters threaten to cut them off.
Several areas are impacted including parts of Port Macquarie, North Haven, Dunbogan, Camden Head and Laurieton.
People in low lying properties in Port Macquarie have been directed to leave, with a significant number of properties at threat of flooding.
The areas affected are:
– Hastings River Drive and Settlement Point Road
– North Shore – Shoreline Drive, Wombat Close, Dolphin Court and Marlin Place
– Maria River Road – may become unsafe to travel on due to inundation
– Short Street and western end of Clarence Street (CBD)
– Westport foreshore area
– The Aquatic and Marina Caravan Parks
– Elfords Road, the Hatch
– Settlement Point and Hibbard Ferries due to high velocity river flows, flood debris and inundation of set down areas.
Other low lying areas of North Haven, Dunbogan, Diamond Head and foreshore areas of Laurieton are also being directed to evacuate.
The SES advises roads will begin to close once floodwaters pass the moderate level at the Laurieton gauge roads around North Haven, Dunbogan and Diamond Head and foreshore areas of Laurieton.
In issuing the order, the SES explained that once floodwater begins inundating the area, road access, water, sewerage, power, phones and internet may be lost.
"If you remain in the area you will be trapped and it may be too dangerous for SES to rescue you," the notice said.
Wherever possible, people should go and stay with family or friends, or make other accommodation arrangements.
People can also go to the evacuation centre at The Laurieton United Services Club, 2 Seymour Street, Laurieton
