Prior to his 10-year stint at REA Group, Varsavsky was with ThoughtWorks as a principal consultant, where he consulted for many organisations including AXA, Lonely Planet and ANZ on agile methodologies, software development, IT strategy and IT architecture.
In 2018 and again in 2019, he was listed as one of the top 50 CIOs in Australia by CIO magazine.
New managing director for Woolworths NZ
Woolworths New Zealand’s newly appointed managing director, Spencer Sonn, officially joined the company on March 17 after spending time in stores across the country getting to know the team and the wider business.
Sonn said he is excited to be taking on the new role and to continue to build on the strong foundations the leadership team have already put in place.
“The immense potential that this business has was one of the key things that attracted me to this position, and I’m looking forward to leading and supporting the team to help realise that,” he said.
In his previous role as food managing director at Woolworths Holdings in South Africa., he was responsible for the food and innovation portfolios across more than 400 supermarkets and 33,000 team members.
Mecca welcomes new chief technology officer
Mecca recently welcomed a new chief technology officer to oversee the wider tech teams to service all of the beauty retailer’s technology needs.
The company named former Lovisa head of supply chain Michael Hobsbawn as its new head of technology. He said he was excited to help set a path for IT success at Mecca and be involved in the capital transformation and upcoming supply chain initiatives.
Prior to Mecca, Hobsbawn held general management roles across Supply Chain and Merchandise at Lovisa, T2Tea, Coles and Reece.
