Australia Day beachgoers were evacuated from the water at a popular Gold Coast beach after a shark was spotted by lifeguards.
The shark was spotted at Surfers Paradise about 10.45am Queensland time.
A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokeswoman said the small shark was seen attacking a school of baitfish with a pod of dolphins.
The spokeswoman said the rescue helicopter conducted aerial surveillance but the fish was not sighted.
The beach reopened at 11.35am.
Around the same time, swimmers were ordered out of the water after a shark was spotted swimming near Manly Beach.
The animal was spotted by the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter at 11.13am NSW time
A spokeswoman from Surf Life Saving NSW told NCA NewsWire the shark was a “very small” hammerhead
The shark moved on shortly after the sighting.
Manly Beach was not closed.
