Add CategoryA Perth man who allegedly pretended to be a teenage social media celebrity to blackmail girls into sharing sexually explicit images and videos has been charged with 134 new offences.
Muhammad Zain Ul Abideen Rasheed, 25, is now facing a total of 247 charges related to 245 complainants.
Police allege Mr Rasheed befriended girls in Australia and overseas before he committed “sextortion”.
The WA Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team began investigating him after tip-offs from the United States’ Homeland Security Investigations and Interpol. He was charged with more than 100 offences last year.
“An ongoing review of hundreds of social media chats and other data, including sexually explicit images, stored on the man’s devices resulted in the further charges relating to 133 alleged victims,” police said in a statement on Friday.
“The review is ongoing and police have not ruled out laying more charges.”
Mr Rasheed, from Parkwood, is scheduled to face Perth Magistrates Court later on Friday via video link.
When the initial charges were laid, police said one incident involved a 13-year-old girl in the US who thought she was communicating with a 15-year-old boy.
Mr Rasheed allegedly sent her edited screen shots of their chat, which made it appear she liked his sexual fantasies, then he threatened to send them to her family and friends if she did not meet his demands.
Police alleged he forced her to undress and perform sexual acts while he and others watched online.
