Nelson Alexander Fitzroy’s Rick Daniel said he’d received “stacks of inquiry” within days of listing the four-bedroom residence.
“The appeal has been quite broad,” he said.
“I’ve had buyers ringing from interstate, from Sydney. But predominantly we’re getting a lot of inquiry from the core inner suburbs (where people) are used to be seeing this sort of property, like Fitzroy, Richmond, Abbotsford.”
Mr Daniel said church conversions were uncommon in Northcote, with this one’s Roman temple design making it even more of a minority.
He said he’d only ever seen one other like it at 278 Gore St, Fitzroy, which he sold for $3 million in 2013.
The Mitchell St conversion was completed in the past year to feature 9.5m-high ceilings in the open-plan living, dining and kitchen area.
The light-filled space is cleverly decorated by dining benches resembling church pews, and opens out to a barbecue deck and garden.
There’s also a former church hall at the rear of the property, which has been converted into a double garage with a mezzanine level and bathroom.

Mr Daniel said the vendors had originally intended to live there long-term, before their kids’ schooling took them to the Kew area.
The property’s expressions of interest campaign closes 5pm on March 21, unless it’s sold prior.
