As if we needed any more proof that dogs are the best.
A one-year-old border collie-kelpie autism service dog named Marley has been filmed comforting his owner who was having a panic attack in her NSW home, a new video shows.
The distressed owner, Hayley, can be seen hitting herself, as Marley attempts to stop her with his paws before jumping on her lap and embracing her.
Hayley, who preferred not to give her full name, shared the video to the Dogspotting Facebook group saying: “This (panic attack) was … a bit more severe than the others. But I wanna show people that dogs can help in great ways.
“I can hit myself as a stimming (self-stimulating) type thing and a self regulation to try and calm myself down. But Marley is trained to interrupt that behaviour. See how he gets his paws right between my arms and my face and pulls them away into a forced hug. He is also licking my tears. So grateful to have this boy every single day.”
Hayley told Storyful Marley was stopping her hurting herself during a “sensory episode”, while also applying pressure to her to keep her grounded.
She said having Marley had changed her life.
“Living with high-functioning autism was hard,” she said.
“I grew up bullied, I grew up struggling majorly with school, I hardly had friends as I was that weird kid.
“Marley has given me so much sense of independence and he has changed my life. I want to spread awareness of autism service dogs.”
It’s not the first time Marley has made headlines.
Marley went viral in September last year in another video where he was seen comforting Hayley, and trying to get her arms away from her face.
