The release date of the second season of Fortnite Chapter Two has been revealed by Epic Games, with a two-week delay pushing the launch to February 20th 2020.

This delay comes as Fortnite moves to a new game engine to Unreal Engine’s chaos physics system. This engine specialises in the destruction of buildings and structures, something key to Fortnite gameplay, but making it seem more realistic.

What this means for Fortnite is that instead of items simply disappearing after being blown up for example, we may now be able to see actual debris and rubble left behind instead. Or another example may be actually leaving behind some evidence that you have used your pickaxe to gather resources by smacking down trees, rocks or metal structures etc. This change could also mean that the Fortnite map may feature even more destroyable environments in the future, which would add a whole new element to the game.

In a statement released by Epic Games, the delay to the release date is about was necessary to ensure a smooth transition to the new engine.

“At launch, the goal is to ensure that Fortnite still feels like Fortnite. Along the way there will be some bumps, so we’re starting tests with a small group of players. We’ll also closely monitor feedback and make improvements over time.”

The statement also included a teaser to some new changes gamers could expect to see in season two. The cruel twist was that they were actually redacted.

“Chapter 2 – Season 2 will feature ??? with multiple ???. We can’t brief you on all of next Season’s secrets just yet …”

Season One of Fortnite Chapter two has become one of the longest seasons to date, lasting well over the typical length of 10 weeks, passing over 100 days since its launch on October 15th 2019.

With the delay, Epic Games has also promised players that there would be “additional Overtime Challenges and a new two-week event”, urging players to stay tuned to their social media channels.
