December 31, 2019. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian alongside RFS RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons provides an update as close to 100 blazes burn across NSW with conditions set to deteriorate in the afternoon. Eight fires were burning at an "emergency" level by 3.30pm, including the 226,000-hectare Currowan blaze on the NSW South Coast, the 31,000ha Clyde Mountain fire near Batemans Bay, the 26,000ha Green Valley fire east of Albury and the 64,000-ha Countegany fire east of Cooma. Ms Berejiklian confirms a father and son have died in fires on the NSW south coast, a day after a volunteer firefighter died in a truck crash involving a "fire tornado".
