The wait for the phone’s full unveiling is finally over, with the Pixel 4 expected to launch — alongside other new hardware products — at Google’s annual showcase in New York City tomorrow.

The launch comes on the heels of events from Amazon, Microsoft and Apple — all of which have announced new gadgets — and tomorrow’s showcase is expected to be a big one.

Alongside the Pixel 4, according to rumours, we can anticipate a new Chromebook, Google Assistant and more Nest Devices. Here’s what we know so far.

PIXEL 4

Google hasn’t been shy about the fact it has another phone coming — and the Pixel 4 will be the star of tomorrow’s show.

The back of the phone was officially revealed in a tweet from Google in June, revealing a massive change to the Pixel range — an increase in cameras.

Previous Pixel models have only featured a single rear camera lens, but the Pixel 4 will feature two lenses that are rumoured to include plenty of tricks, such as a mode for photographing stars and for taking better action shots.

Google also shared that the phone would have sensors allowing for face unlock — to rival Apple’s Face ID — and a motion-sensing radar that the tech giants have been quietly developing for years.

Rather than having to bring the phone to your face, Google said the face unlock sensors would recognise you from the moment you reached for your device. And the motion-sensing radar will enable owners to use gestures to skip songs, snooze alarms and silence phone calls.

The phone, as usual, is expected to come in two sizes and be outfitted in three colours — white, orange and black.

And with the introduction of these new features, consumers can expect the price of the phone to increase.

GOOGLE ASSISTANT

The “next generation Google Assistant” was demoed at a conference in May, where Google announced that it would be coming to “new Pixel phones later this year”, run on device and be able to process requests up to 10 times faster than the old Assistant.

Shifting the Assistant’s processing onto the device’s local storage will improve response times and help keep data on your device.

Consumers can also expect to be able to use the new Google Assistant to text replies within apps and search for photos in Google photos.

PIXELBOOK GO

It’s likely that Google will dip back into the world of computing with the announcement of a new Pixelbook — what’s being dubbed the Pixelbook Go — at tomorrow’s showcase.

While their previous laptops have been met with mixed reviews, Google confirmed earlier this year that new laptops were on the way.

The Pixelbook Go is expected to come in two shades — black or pink — and have a 13.3-inch touchscreen display, two USB-C ports and come in a variety of configurations, from the Intel i3, i5 and i7 processors to RAM at 6GB or 256GB options as well.

PIXEL BUDS

There is the potential of an upgrade to Google’s Pixel Buds to be announced tomorrow after a tweet earlier this year from Android and Chrome chief Hiroshi Lockheimer hinted at what could be coming.

The AirPod imitators, released in 2017, weren’t a massive success, but a follow-up could eliminate the wire connecting the two Buds, making them truly wireless.

NEST WI-FI AND NEST HOME MINI

Google has enjoyed plenty of success from their Google Home range, which will now make the jump to the branding of Google-owned Nest.

We might see a new version of their mesh router system — and if the rumours are true, Google might use it as a way to get even more Assistant devices in your home.

Apparently renamed “Nest Wi-Fi”, a main primary router will be able to connect to smaller routers around the house. The devices will also reportedly double as Google Assistant smart speakers, extending the reach of your voice commands at the same time it’s extending the reach of your Wi-Fi.

A Google Home Mini successor could also be announced.

Renamed as the Nest Mini, rumours suggest it will have improved source, a 3.5mm stereo jack and new colours and could also be able to sense when you’re nearby.
