A black woman in the US has been shot and killed by police after a neighbour called the non-emergency dispatcher and asked the police to do a welfare check. Atatiana Jefferson, 28, was killed about 2:30am on Saturday when police attended her Fort Worth home after a concerned neighbour raised the alarm with authorities. “When I made that non-emergency call I didn't say anything to make them think they needed to have a gun,” he said. “All they needed to do was knock on the door and ring the doorbell.” Fort Worth police have supported the officer in his decision as he believed there was a threat when he fatally shot the woman.
