Australian Council of Trade Unions President Michele O’Neil says the free trade deals with Indonesia, Hong Kong, and potentially Peru need to be tested first to see if “local workers can do the job” instead. “We're concerned about these deals because they are bad in terms of Australian jobs,” she told Sky News host David Speers. “What they do is they open up even more short term visa workers, we have 1.4 million on those visas in Australia at the moment… we think there needs to be testing first to see whether local workers can do the job.”
