Top Democrats are calling for US Labor Secretary Alex Acosta to resign, accusing him of being too lenient in a plea deal involving multi-millionaire Jeffrey Epstein. The former federal prosecutor helped to negotiate the deal that allowed Epstein to serve a lesser sentence on state charges of prostitution, while the financier was accused of sexually abusing underage girls. The agreement, which was reached in 2008, allowed Epstein to serve 13 months in jail rather than face trial. Mr Acosta’s actions have come under scrutiny after Epstein was indicted on fresh sex-trafficking charges this week, involving minors in New York and Florida. Image: AP
