Good morning!

1. Kim Darroch has resigned as the UK ambassador to the US following a public row with President Donald Trump. It comes after confidential memos showed Darroch referring to the Trump administration as “uniquely dysfunctional” and “inept”.

2. Facebook wants to increase diversity within the company. The social network published its sixth annual diversity report on Tuesday, announcing an ambitious push for its workforce to be at least 50% “women, people who are Black, Hispanic, Native American, Pacific Islanders, people with two or more ethnicities, people with disabilities, and veterans” within the next five years.

3. Australian Alek Sigley, who was released from detention in North Korea last week, has said he is not a spy. Sigley released a series of tweets where he thanked everyone for their support and said he has no immediate plans to return to North Korea.

4. New South Wales wins the 2019 rugby league State of Origin. It’s the state’s first back-to-back State of Origin win since 2005, beating Queensland 26-20.

5. Sir David Attenborough has slammed Australia’s inaction on climate change. Speaking to the UK House of Commons, the veteran broadcaster and conservationist singled out Australia for not doing enough to combat global warming, despite being one of the places most exposed to its negative effects.

6. London’s Gatwick Airport was forced to suspend all flights after its air-traffic-control system failed on Wednesday. Numerous inbound flights that were already in the air when the failure happened were seen diverting to other nearby airports in UK cities such as Birmingham and Brighton.

7. China’s economic growth is expected to slow further. A new Reuters poll has revealed that China’s economic growth is expected to slow to 6.2% in 2019, representing a near 30-year low.

8. Nintendo announces new console. Shares of Nintendo jumped by more than 3% after the company announced that a new gaming console, the Nintendo Switch Lite, will be released on September 20. Take a look at the new, cheaper console here.

9. Cocaine conundrum. A ship financed by JPMorgan’s asset management business has been seized by US Customs after more than US$1 billion of the illicit drug was found onboard. JPMorgan has declined to answer questions to Markets Insider, but Bloomberg columnist Matt Levine has written that the Wall Street giant is unlikely to be worried by the seizure.

10. Tesla wants to ramp up production of its electric vehicles. The company reportedly plans to increase production of its electric cars at its manufacturing facility in California. Tesla’s stocks rose as much as 1.6% on the news.
