Amazon has announced its date for Amazon Prime Day — but you have to be a member to score the discounts.

Amazon announced on Tuesday that its annual sales bonanza known as Prime Day will start on Monday, July 15 and last a full 48 hours.

Prime Day started in the US in 2015 and has grown quickly — with expansion to many international countries, including Australia last year.

For Australians, Prime Day starts at midnight on Monday, July 15. Deals will be available straight from the U.S. for Prime members in Australia from Amazon.com.au.

Amazon Prime Day is Amazon’s global sales event that’s like a Boxing Day sale on steroids and is now one of the biggest sales days on Amazon’s calendar. The concept is similar to Click Frenzy, except all of the deals are exclusive to Amazon Prime members – which means you need to be a subscriber to get the deals.

It currently costs $6.99 to join Amazon Prime in Australia, which is well below the asking price in most other markets. There’s also a free 30-day trial available which you can cancel at any time.

According to Amazon, Prime members will also get free expedited international shipping for all eligible Prime products through the global store during Prime Day. There will be no minimum order required.

Last year’s Prime Day was the biggest shopping event in Amazon’s history at the time, with shoppers in the US gobbling up Amazon’s own devices like the Fire TV Stick as well as the Instant Pot, the 23andMe DNA test, and the LifeStraw.

It was handily beat as a single sales day by Amazon’s 2018 Cyber Monday sale, according to the company.

Amazon also keeps adding new services and perks like Prime Day to keep members happy in the ecosystem.

“Prime delivers such massive scale and features that we believe it would be very difficult for any company to replicate and compete against, and Amazon continues to expand and add more value to Prime by adding new benefits and growing existing offerings,” JPMorgan analysts wrote in 2018, arguing that Prime is actually worth $US785 a year.
