Inside, the timber-lined ceilings reach up to 7m in some places, while an overhead steel bridge links the main bedroom and rumpus room upstairs.

Master Builders Victoria chief executive Rebecca Casson said the finishes at the coastal home impressed the judges in the Residential Builder of the Year category.

“One of the most compelling aspects of the this home is the visual impact of the way the builders fit the concrete and wood volumes together,” Ms Casson said.

“The rough and smooth forms rest against each other in a very satisfying way.”

Builder Drew Larkin said it took 14 months to bring Auhaus architect Kate Fitzpatrick’s design to life.

It was only the second concrete house the company had taken on and the walls and custom kitchen bench were poured on site in a labour-intensive process.

“It was a complex build and the structure was made from concrete so everything had to be really spot on,” Mr Larkin said.

“Attention to detail was critical because there were lots of raw finishes.”

He said a brass pendant custom made in Melbourne had pride of place in the large void over the dining area.

It forms part of the main ground floor living zone which opens onto a swimming pool and outdoor entertainment area.

Other features of the Riverside Tce house include Calacatta marble splashbacks and benchtops and cupboards and doors chosen to match the timber-lined ceiling.

Mr Larkin said the company’s work had been recognised in previous awards but this was the first time it had won the Regional Builder of the Year.

“It’s a good feeling. With clients you can tell them how good it is but when it gets recognised by professionals it’s great,” he said.

“It’s also good that architects can see their designs being built to the standards they would expect.”
