The imminent sale of a long-time community centre, where residents have celebrated many joyous events, is set to give back to those in need.

On the market for the first time since it was built in 1985, the sprawling property at 16 Wealtheasy St, Riverstone, has $1.5 million hopes — and all of its profits will be given to a mix of charities and organisations, including The Cancer Council and The Sydney Children’s Hospital.

The building, on more than 6000sqm, is owned by the Saint Mary of Cherso (SMOC) association.

The non-profit group has given European immigrants, mostly from Italy and Croatia, a place to socialise.

A function hall, outdoor kitchen, two bocce courts and a covered area with room to seat hundreds of guests are some features.

“With many of the original members having passed away, or now in their twilight years, it was the decision of the SMOC community that no member will personally benefit financially from the club,” a spokeswoman said.

Money from the site’s sale will also be donated to the Heart Foundation and Vinnies.

According to agents Fiona Spindlow and John Kelly of Starr Partners Riverstone, the licensed venue — which also has two commercial kitchens, a stage and servery bar — was attracting strong interest.

“We held our first open and had five groups through; all of them want to bring something different to the property,” Ms Spindlow said.

“Some people would like to turn the hall into a church while others would like to run a course for those with disabilities, to increase their skill set and social interaction with others,” she said.

While the expansive site is drawing buyers from as far as the eastern suburbs, it is also generating local interest.

“The Marsden Park Business Hub is only moments from there, so it’s bring out-of-area people in,” the agent said.

The property is scheduled for auction on Saturday, July 13.
