A NEWTOWN tenant keen to put down permanent roots in the blue chip suburb has found a long-term home right under her nose.

Jo Sena and her family won’t have far to move when they shift into 118 Skene St, just down the road from where they are renting.

Ms Sena paid $800,000 — the top of the asking range — for the three-bedroom brick house at auction on Saturday.

Buxton agent Dylan Taggert said the flexibility and location of the 575sq m property saw several bidders put their hand up.

He said it offered affordable buying in a prized street where renovated houses often sold in the $1.5 million to $2 million range.

“The buyer is renting in the street and she really likes it,” Mr Taggert said.

“It wasn’t a period home but the appeal was that it was a bit of a blank canvas to put their own creative stamp on or knock it over one day.”

The floorplan has two living areas, including a family-friendly rumpus room, a formal dining room, two central bathrooms and a double garage with internal access.

The sale equals the median house price in Newtown, according to the latest CoreLogic figures.
