"His family is with him. Police are with him but he is currently in theatre," she said.

"He is in a stable but serious condition."

The dramatic incident began when police were questioning a man at Inala Civic Centre about 2.10pm on Sunday, a police spokeswoman said.

"They were speaking to a man and then for whatever reason a scuffle has ensued during which time a police officer was stabbed with a pair of scissors," she said.

"He was stabbed in the shoulder and neck area."

A second officer used a Taser on the man, momentarily stopping him, before he ran off, police said.

Police officers, including the police helicopter and the dog squad, swarmed the Inala area trying to find him.

At 3.10pm police received a triple zero call from someone who said a man was trying to steal a car from a home ate nearby Clipper Street in Inala.

"There was a man armed with a shovel in Clipper Street. He was trying to steal a car and was threatening the occupants of the house," the police spokeswoman alleged, recounting the emergency call.

Police allege the man threatened officers and was taken into custody after one officer tasered him.

Police are trying to find a red T-shirt near Inala Civic Centre or Clipper Street which they believe the man taken into custody was wearing.

Acting Inspector Wilson said police had been speaking to the man about relatively minor matters.

"We were wanting to speak to him but no serious offences," she said.

Shortly before 10pm, police confirmed the Inala man had been charged with one count each of attempted murder, trespass, enter dwelling with intent, armed robbery, attempted armed robbery and two counts of obstruct police.

He is due before the Richlands Magistrates Court on May 13.
