The video, which was captured by a woman on-board the Chicago to Los Angeles flight on Thursday, shows a hooded woman lashing out at a passenger while two flight attendants try and intervene.

The cabin crew can be heard shouting “stop … stop” during the violent altercation but are ignored as the passengers continue to launch punches at each other.

One passenger on board the flight told news.com.au the altercation broke out during a 6am haul from Chicago to Los Angeles.

“The altercation happened because three women were being a little loud when they were talking,” the woman who filmed the incident, claimed.

“One woman (standing in the video) started telling them to shut up. They all started yelling vulgar terms at each other.

“When the flight attendant approached the woman, she said she had a seat up front for her.

“But when the woman got up she was still talking to the girls and then started hitting them when passing them.”

News.com.au has contacted Spirit Airlines for comment.

The six-second video, which was shared by Twitter account Barstool Sports, has been viewed almost 500,000 times and had more than 1400 shares.

It’s not the first time an altercation has broken out on-board a Spirit Airlines flight.

In May 2017, angry passengers in Florida’s Fort Lauderdale airport violently clashed with Spirit Airlines employees as well as police after the low-cost carrier cancelled flights due to a labour dispute with its pilots.

Videos posted to social media showed fights between passengers and crew, with police arresting at least three people,” according to The Washington Post.

Earlier this year, a Spirit Airlines passenger was filmed throwing a tantrum, flashing her bum and twerking while on-board a packed plane.

The unidentified woman, apparently drunk, lost her cool after she was reportedly told to switch her phone off on a flight from Orlando to Newark in the US.

Footage shows the woman speaking to a flight attendant, and she appears to be begging to stay.

Moments later, the woman moves to collect her things from an overhead locker.

As she moans, she notices several passengers are recording her antics, causing her to flip out.

“Yo record all you f***ing want,” she yelled, before turning around and twerking while flashing her bum.

Dozens start cheering and laughing at her before one screams: “You’re so trashy I love it!”

The woman instantly reacts, screaming, “Yeah! Come fight me then bitch!

“Do something! Do something! Oh nothing ’cuz you’re a p***y a** hoe!”

She closes her locker and then storms down the aisle towards the passenger as she yells: “You’re not my mother. My mother makes more money than you.”

A flight attendant calls her down to the front of the plane to escort her off the aircraft as other passengers cheer.
