Brunswick East Primary School in Melbourne has renamed Mother’s Day as ‘Appreciation Day’ or ‘Acknowledgement Day’ to cause less offence to non-traditional families. Sky News host Jane Marwick says she feels ‘desperately’ for children who don’t have a mum or dad, but that renaming the day and ‘papering over it’ is not the answer.
