Jersey Boys explores how a group of blue-collar boys from the wrong side of the tracks became one of the biggest American pop music sensations of all time.

They wrote their own songs, invented their own sounds and sold 175 million records worldwide – all before they were thirty.

Gonzalez said the underdog story struck a chord with Australian audiences.

“They created so many hits and they came from nothing. Two of the guys in the band spent time in prison and so for them to come from that background and then excel and be these stars is quite incredible," he said.

The Four Seasons produced worldwide hits such as Big Girls Don’t Cry, Sherry, Walk Like A Man, Oh What A Night and Can’t Take My Eyes Off You.

“I really love Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, I think it is beautiful,” Gonzalez said.

“My favourite moment of the show is when that song starts, you can see people in the audience grabbing their friends’ hands and they start singing along with me which is really awesome.”

The 26-year-old said it had been a challenge to nail Frankie Valli's extraordinary vocal range.

“The falsetto is hard especially because I haven’t really sung up there in my career so I find that really challenging," he said.

“He has a nasal quality to his voice as well which I have to try and emulate, it took a lot of training before the show.

“I have sung the songs that many times now and they still never get boring. They are just genius songs," Gonzalez said.

Jersey Boys returns to QPAC's Lyric Theatre on January 2.
