UK Prime Minster Theresa May has returned from Brussels after failing to secure any new concessions from European Union leaders. Former UK Independence Party Leader Nigel Farage says it was a ‘shaming moment’ for the UK and Mrs May to see her ‘talked down to by that bunch of gangsters’ in the EU. Mrs May will now be forced to brief parliament on her failure to dissolve the stalemate over the Northern Irish ‘backstop’. If there is no agreement on what to do after the Brexit transition period ends in 2020, the UK would be locked into a backstop which ensures Ireland would have no hard border but essentially lock the UK into the EU rules.
