After running an unlucky fifth in the group 3 Eclipse Stakes a week earlier at Sandown, Kiwia, who is based at Warrnambool, was primed to win having only his fourth start this preparation after kicking off his spring on Cox Plate eve.
The rain worried Weir slightly as did the barrier draw however his fears were allayed when Allen managed to find the fence around the back straight after jumping from barrier 13.
"It was some sort of ride," Weir said.
Allen is having some sort of spring adding Kiwia to the horses he has ridden to victory on the past five consecutive Saturdays with two group wins on Ringerdingding, the Mackinnon Stakes on Trap for Fools, the Victoria Derby on Extra Brut, the Crystal Mile on Cliff's Edge, the Ethereal Stakes on Verry Elleegant.
The former jumps jockey admitted he was excited about the book of rides he had but the run of wins has well and truly exceeded his expectation.
"For everything to work out how it has is unbelievable ... when you get on the right horses it makes a difference," Allen said.
He now calls Ballarat home and says recognition of him is growing.
"I was a jumps jockey trying to get rides then I was a jumps jockey trying to get rides on the flat. It takes a while to build up trust with owners and trainers but I suppose I am showing at the moment that I can produce the goods on the big stage," Allen said.
