“I was terrified in the run. I had my excuses and I was starting to go through them, but she was there for me," Pike told Sky Racing.

“She travelled today, she hasn’t travelled like that for a little while and [Grant and Alana Williams] had her peaked and primed for today.”

Pike was back on the fence but following Gatting into the race. Coming to the turn, he spied a run to the outside and was able to get four horses off the fence in a blink of an eye by the 250m mark and from there the winner of 10 of her 13 starts exploded into action.

Galaxy Star careered away to win by one-and-three-quarter lengths from Gatting, with Material Man a head back in third.

“Willy is that good at what he is doing I could see what he was doing,” Grant Williams said.

“They were getting off the rails ... and he just chanced his hand. It was just a great ride.”

Pike said he had thrown the toys out of the cot but his ability to find runs proved decisive, as well as the outstanding acceleration of Galaxy Star.

“Your hand is already dealt; you just have to sit and make the best of a bad situation. Sit and hope and pray that something in front happens for you and nothing happened for a long time,” he said.

“Then a few little things started to happen, Gatting [was] picking his way through them and I was following him.

“Leading into the straight, I wasn’t sure whether to bide my time and look to the inside but I saw a gap to the outside and made my move for it. In the end I probably got there too early.”

Peters praised his mare and the trio have an iron grip on the Kingston Town Stakes in a fortnight after Arcadia Queen had earlier made a one-act affair of the WA Guineas.

“I’m going to have some sleepless nights deciding which to ride [in the Kingston Town],” Pike said.

Arcadia Queen become the first filly since 1959 to win the Champion Fillies Stakes and Guineas double and did so in dominant fashion.

“The way she travelled in running was just exceptional,” Pike said.

Peters was delighted to win the Railway and is not scared about Galaxy Star and Arcadia Queen meeting in the Kingston Town, the final group 1 of the year.

“They say mares don’t win the Railway all that often but she’s a good mare,” Peters said

“It is definitely the hardest race in this state to win. This is very enjoyable for me when a plan comes together."
