QUEENSLAND music student Royston Sagigi-Baira has become the first contestant to snag a perfect score on All Together Now.
The 19-year-old managed to get all 100 judges for the Channel 7 singing show - including captain Ronan Keating - on their feet with his powerful rendition of Sam Smith’s Lay Me Down.
Keating was full of praise for Sagigi-Baira, who hails from Old Mapoon near Weipa - a mining town on the Gulf of Carpentaria coast of the Cape York Peninsula in Queensland.
“What a voice, what a moment - you have something really special,” Keating said following the performance.
“You got connection, presence, everything. You’re a star. You got 100 people standing up and let me tell you Royston this lot are really tough and you did it, you nailed it.”
Having made it through to the Grand Final, Sagigi-Baira said his late mum, who passed away in February, was watching over him.
“My mum was one of my biggest fans - really proud of me,” he said.
“It’s really sad she’s not here with me. I know she’s here with me in spirit and watching over me performing.”
