Backhus converted for 4-0 and although Queensland struck back through Oliver Crane, Lakers fan-favourite Aaron Kershaw put the game to bed with five minutes to play.

Turner said he loved playing against the Blades because his men always rise to the challenge but admitted this victory was particularly sweet.

"It feels good but it’s funny because even when they've had their superstars we've had a few good wins against Queensland, they’re just one of those teams we like to play," Turner said.

"I remember one home game here a while back we beat them in the last minute but this is definitely our best result against Queensland.

"It was difficult with their young guys stepping up and they've got points to prove because they all want to play for Australia those young Queenslanders.

"I'm really proud of our boys, I thought we were the better team for most of the game, yeah they had their chances but I think we played really well."

Turner praised the crowd and backed them to return in even greater numbers for their clash against NSW next Saturday.

"We could definitely hear them, especially when we got a half break and it definitely helps give you a bit of a boost," Turner said.

"You don't want to look like you're being lazy or look like you're not doing anything in front of your home crowd so it lifts our boys for sure.

"I tell you what I watched the vision from last week and you could definitely tell the boys stepped up today, our debutants got over the nerves and we were really strong all day.

"NSW will be fun, sometimes it can be tough against them with the little brother big brother thing, but I think if we can keep this form we can put a result on them."
